Modern Woodland Garden with Substantial Level Changes

The setting for this family garden was beautiful, a stone house set on the top of a large hill sloping down to a river and woodland area. The family asked for help arranging the garden over the substantial level changes while still capturing the beauty of this space. I employed a colour palette inspired by the surrounding woodland and the nearby listed Victorian factory and logging site.

At the family's request for a fun and adventurous garden, I introduced a netted terrace space near the house and offering a spot to enjoy the garden view. Furthermore, I designed a boat house, providing a unique venue for gatherings and woodland adventures with pieces of art strung through the trees.

These drawings showcase the multi-level terrace featuring a variety of functional spaces, such as seating, dining, a net terrace, and storage. One highlight is a beautiful tree that rises through the terrace area so you feel as if you are sitting in the canopy.

The terrace area features a selection of evergreen grasses, sedges, and ferns, providing a sense of immersion in the garden. To accomplish this, custom-designed corten steel planters were used, adding a contemporary touch to the space.
