A Provence Style Garden to remind the Owners of Home
This family garden backed onto a canal in a beautiful setting but had been unloved for the past few years. When the clients bought the property they wanted to give it a sense of French country style, particually that of Provence, to remind them of their home.
The design gave them a large, Provence style terrace and seating area as well as an outdoor kitchen with a pergola for the existing grape vine.
As well as a beautiful terrace area, the young family also wanted an area for their children to explore nature and the outdoor environment. A woodland area was created in the corner of the garden which was accessed through a moon gate. The woodland area was a calm retreat with an old fashioned wooden swing as well as a hedgehog house, bug hotel and various patches left to the insects and wildlife. The planting in this area was designed for shade with the addition of several larger trees and underplanting reminiscent of the woodland edge.
